James Sowers, Therapist
James Sowers is a dedicated social work professional with over two decades of experience serving diverse populations through community-based support and Medicaid waiver management. He began his career in 1996 as a Crisis Center Technician at Six County Inc., where he provided immediate and short-term support to individuals experiencing mental health crises. He later transitioned to the role of Partial Hospitalization Therapist, facilitating therapeutic intervention groups to help individuals manage their mental health symptoms and avoid hospitalization.
From 2011 to 2015, James worked with the Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where he provided social work services to individuals with developmental disabilities. His responsibilities included managing the DD Medicaid waiver and coordinating essential community-based services.
Since 2015, James has served with the Area Agency on Aging, where he supports adults aged 60 and older. In his current role, he oversees the PASSPORT Medicaid waiver program, setting up and authorizing community-based services that allow elderly individuals to remain safely and independently in their homes, avoiding institutional care.
James holds an Associate’s Degree in Mental Health (1996) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (2011). His lifelong commitment to serving vulnerable populations highlights his passion for compassionate care and resourceful support.
